Dear sis Thu Huong & CACC,

Thanks for the interesting article, Thu Huong. You are such a good writer
and thinker! I love Da Lat. I was at Da Lat University for a short time,
several months in the first university year, for physics, chemistry and
natural sciences, probably at a time when brother Hong Phong's father, Prof.
Pho Bo Long, was the dean of School of Politics and Commerce (Truong Chinh
Tri Kinh Doanh). And I've been in love with Da Lat every since. Such a
romantic city! Oh, BTW, Virginia, where I live, is so much like Da Lat.
Every time the fog pulls slowly over the pine hills, landing softly on the
winding roads and the over the tops of the trees, I miss Da Lat. The slogan
of this state is "Virginia is for Lovers." Just so you know.

Anyway, what you said about Vietnamese intellectuals is very interesting.
But could I give you a bit of caution? Some people, including some
intellectuals, may face hard times because of what they think or do, because
of their free spirit or of their integrity. I have experienced that kind of
hard time myself, so I know how it feels. But Vietnam does have many
"intellectuals" who do nothing other than talking smart and whining and
complaining. Xuan Toc Do by Vu Trong Phung describes them. And there are
many of them today too. My experience is that if you run into a true
intellectual who is having a hard time, chances you don't even know that he
is an intellectual having a hard time, because he would be happy working
like a professional farmer every day and chances are he is not whining. True
intellectuals rarely whine, they work, either with the pen or with the hoe
or with both, depending on what kind of time they are in. You just have to
figure out who is who yourself, sister.

Great day, Thu Huong & all.

Hoanh
