Dear Thu Huong,
Thanks so much for sharing your Da Lat experience. You are so lucky with
only 330 km to go to be among the pine trees. I didnot know that I had
influenced your decision to go to the mountains, but I am glad you did. It
is so great that you are able to put down your thoughts and to share
widely. This form of sharing and others such as travel blogs didnot exist
during my traveling days, plus I don't know if I would have the discipline
to record regularly.
Though I was not born there, Dalat was and remain a very special place to
me. I try to get there every chance I get, but not for the same reasons
most tourists go there. I prefer it there in the off season and alone.
Reading your account, I see that you appreciate the place for some of the
same factors. But for the place to grow on you, you need to be there
longer, on days when there is no clouds (rare) when you can walk to the
top of the twin peaks and see forever, as well as times when it rains for
weeks on ends when there is nothing to do but to curl up with a good book
by a fragrant pinewood fire, roasting khoai lang that are royal purple
outside and pumpkin orange inside and as sweet as honey (almost impossible
to find now). You need to be there on mornings when the fog is so thick
you can't see a foot in front of you. It insulates you so well you can
hear your own heart beats. You can really feel time standing still. Now,
imagine the music and the poetry of TCS, how they would speak to you in
ways they never could in the best venues of HCM City.
But so much for my reminiscense. You will have your own Da Lat. Some of
the flowers you mentioned weren't there two decades ago, when the weather
was a good bit cooler. In fact, except for some of the wild flowers, most
of the colorful blossoms that dazzled you so came straight from France
less than a century ago. That doesn't make them any less beautiful. There
was no XQ embroidering industry to create the beautiful crafts. Other
changes, like the off-limit golfcourse, the drying waterfalls and the
night lighting for the flower growing operations, are less welcomed.
If you had more time, you may get to know some of the local intellectuals
there who may share with you how they are imprisoned in paradise, unable
to contribute more.
Best, HPP

Dear my bro and sis,
This is another piece of my writing I finished after my last trip to Da
Lat with my volunteer team.
During last year, I have different chances to meet many cool Vietnamese
Intellectuals. Everyone I have met brought special thinking to my young
mind.
Among them, anh Hong Phong in our forum makes me keep pondering about Da
Lat. I have visited Da Lat before but I did not know that Da Lat is a very
nice place. But anh Phong makes me to think about it. So we the young
students go to Da Lat this Tet holidays. And here is what I have noted
down. Also, this is writing that I want to share with in Vietnamese
intellectuals. hope you like it! Please share your mind and heart with me
in any case!
Enjoy,
