[Vnbiz] Reaching out

For those of you interested, GVN government officials in charge of finance 
and banking did a courageous and unprecedented thing by holding a global 
conference call on June 19 to help ease international financial managers' 
concerns and clarify perceived risks to the economy, and to show GVN 
commitment to stabilize the economy.  I don't recall ever seeing this 
happened before. SBV Governor Giau, Finance Minister Ninh, and MOIT Vice 
Minister were available to answer questions from international analysts. 
Governor Giau fielded most of the questions.  It appears he can speak 
English, but only spoke in Vietnamese, as did the other official. Using 
English would have increased the credibility of this unprecedented attempt 
to reach out to foreign investors and restore confidence. If this kind of 
improved communications and policy transparency continues, the economy has 
a good chance to stabilize before the end of the year.
