Dear CACC,
For years I have had this vision that Vietnam will have an "English culture"
like Singapore. What I mean is that, you go to Singapore you will see that
the Chinese speak Chinese and read Chinese newspaper, same thing with
the Indians or the Malaysians. I mean their traditional cultures are alive
and well, but on top of that there is a very strong English culture with
English-language newspaper, books, songs, etc. The Singaporeans use English
as their second mother tongue. That obviously helps propel Singapore to the
most modern city/country in Asia. I have been dreaming that Vietnam will
have an English-culture like that. (And I think I've mentioned this dream
off and on many times in this forum over the years).
Last night I chatted with Le Thuy (of Tuoi Tre) a bit about this dream and
asked her: If we do some kind of English-language magazine for college
students of Vietnam, would they be interested in reading it? Le Thuy
suggested a webiste to try. Yeah, that's a good idea. Why didn't I think
of that?
So here is my first question to everyone (there will be other questions
later on).
Would Vietnamese college students be interested in an English website
devoted to them, so that they can read news and commentaries and write their
feedback regularly (I.e., practicing reading and writing on a daily
basis)? (Of course, the language will be simple and clear enough to make
the reading easy, and the content deep enough to make it educational). (I
mean, do they care? or do they prefer video games instead?)
Thanks a million for responding to my survey. Oh, if you can forward this
to college students, I would greatly appreciate it. Off-VNBiz responses can
be sent directly to me at tdhoanh at gmail.com. Thanks!
Have a great day!
Hoanh
