Dear chi Thu Trang,

Thanks for the wonderful info on the IPO and thanks for the good proposal on
a finance discussion group. Please allow me to share with you my thinking
and you can tell me what is the best thing to do. I am open to your
suggestion.

Since I started the ancestor of VNBIZ (VAEF) 16 years ago, once in awhile I
have had to review the question: Should we have different group discussions
for different fields of interest? And every time, my answer has been, "In
general, every subject of discussion should be kept in one place to share
with everyone." The reason for that line of thinking is this:

1. More often than not, one issue under discussion involves many different
fields of study--Say, a discussion about rural development, as chi Phuong
Nga said, involves education, health care, agriculture, infrastructure,
finance, etc. It is hard to keep them separate.

2. Even more important, in order for us to truly see things very well, we
have to be relatively well-versed in many different fields. Say, if you are
the CEO of a large company or a high government official, you will need to
talk law like a lawyer, econ like an economist, finance like an accountant,
social issues like a sociologist... Of course, we can't be experts on many
fields, but we do have to have a firm grasp on the fundamentals of many
fields. Otherwise, it is impossible to see things clearly at the policy
level.

In the school, they separate subjects to teach for teaching convenience.
Life is not like that. In life, one issue involves a dozen of different
fields of study. So we intellectuals need to be familiar with many subjects
that are not in our fields of expertise. For this reason, it is good to
have all kinds of discussion in one place so that all brothers and sisters
many have the opportunity to learn from each other. Whoever doesn't want to
read something, s/he just has to delete it. But I think not allowing
everyone the opportunity to learn constantly is a great disservice.

Having said that, I am open to suggestion. Please feel free to tell me what
your suggestion is, chi Thu Trang.

Have a great day!

Hoanh
