This is a case of cultural bias.
Eating dog meat does not make one any more savage than those eating chicken, pork, or beef. People don't eat their pet dogs that are "running around loving people" any more than turning Wilbur the Pig into bacon and sausages.
Would the United States ban beef sales or close down all the steakhouses during the NYC Olympic out of respect for Indian guests?

Dear CACC,
 
I belong to the group of savage who eat dog meat. In the early part of the 90's when I came back to Vietnam often to teach, I would thoroughly enjoy the dog restaurants that my friends in Hanoi took me to.  For the last 10 years or so, however, for I can't eat dog any more.  Every time thinking about the dogs running around loving on people, I feel horrible about eating them.  (Added to that, my wife Phuong doesn't eat dog, so I don't have a companion in the house to keep me going on this exotic dish).
 
However, here is an interesting news.  Peking will not sell dog meat during olympic, to show sensitivity to international guests from different culture.  That is something to think about.

Những thực khách say mê món thịt chó sẽ thất vọng khi đến các nhà hàng ở Bắc Kinh trong thời gian diễn ra Olympic. 
Phó giám đốc sở Du lịch Bắc Kinh Xiong Yumei hôm nay tuyên bố, nếu khách gọi món ăn này, nhân viên nhà hàng có nhiệm vụ gợi ý món khác thay thế. "Để tôn trọng truyền thống ẩm thực của các quốc gia khác nhau, nên tránh xung đột về vấn đề này", ông nói thêm. 
Giới chức thành phố e ngại rằng món thịt chó có thể làm phật ý các vị khách phương Tây và hội bảo vệ động vật. Có 112 nhà hàng được chỉ định phục vụ Olympic đã nhận lệnh cấm phục vụ thịt chó. Tất cả các nhà hàng khác trong thành phố được khuyến khích không bán món ăn này trong suốt thời gian diễn ra sự kiện thể thao lớn nhất hành tinh. 
Thịt chó là món khoái khẩu ở nhiều vùng ở Trung Quốc, đặc biệt là đối với nam giới. Nhiều người tin rằng đồ ăn này mang lại sức mạnh.
