Dear anh Hoanh:
This is a rah rah cheerleading article (and you are right there with the 
pom poms).
I don't really see anything fascinating here.  That's what government 
agencies are supposed to do in a normal, working government; to carry out 
policy initiatives.  The economic entities mentioned are all SOE's under 
government control.  Fighting wars and fighting inflation are different 
and take different skills.  The leaders of Vietnam thought they were the 
same and it took them more than a decade to change course (75-86).  But 
you are really comparing durians and bananas.
Not so quick on your "predictions".  Inflation in March is even worse than 
previous months. You may want to give it a few more months.
I got a good chuckle now that you are saying that a sign of winning the 
inflation fight is the stabilizing stock market.  Didn't you berate some 
poor reporter for saying inflation hit the stockmarket?  At 600 the 
stockmarket is on life support.. 
You may want to review your facts about popular support for the Iraq war 
at the beginning. The majority of Congress and the American people 
supported the war then.  The real problem was some leaders misrepresented 
facts and manifulated the people's fears after 9-11.
Show me the "people" in this fight.  So far I only see the government 
telling the people what to do.  If your TTXVN piece is correct, the 
government is the "people" in jail for a year for protesting whatever they 
are protesting.
In the "dumb" way, according to you, to run the countries, there are 
home-grown economic/financial experts, some of whom were trained right 
here in the United States in the last decade and a half, working very hard 
to advise the leadership on how to manage a transitioning economy.  I 
would put my bet on them to guide the country out of the rough patch.  I 
do give the PM credit for shifting priority from high growth to inflation 
control, even at the cost of some growth.
As well as it has done, Vietnam still has a way to catch up to the 
neighbors, and the world.  I find this talk about emerging from the crisis 
next month better than the neighbors baseless hubris.

Dear CACC,
 
After the Prime Minister and the Father Front, here is an article about 
each government ministry's efforts in doing its part in increasing 
production, reducing import, reducing spending and keeping prices of 
necessities from rising.  This is really fascinating.  The entire country, 
the entire government structure is in the fight together.  I love this 
kind of fighting. The entire government,m the entire nation together in 
the fight. 
 
I have predicted earlier about 2 weeks ago that we will see the result of 
the inflation fight within 1 month.  Within another two weeks or so , I am 
confident that we will see some sign of winning the battle.  One of my 
prediction appears to be good already--the stock market is stabilizing 
around half of its peak in 2007 (a little lower than 600).  Of course, the 
authority did get involved to help a little, but the point is whatever 
help measure we have, the stock would only stabilize at its approximate 
strength, which is a half of the peak (according to my estimation).
 
Some of you may think that fighting inflation is the job of only a couple 
of guys in the Central Bank or the government, and the people just merely 
react to what these guys set (i.e., interest rate or tax cut) as a bunch 
of economic creatures.  I set A, you will do B for me; I set C, you will 
do D for me.  I think that is a very dumb way to run a country.  Vietnam 
won wars because everyone in the country was asked to fight to win and 
everyone fought.  The US now couldn't even do Iraq correctly (even after 
the Vietnam lesson) because the government just does what it does and 
don't care about the people's feeling, and the people, at least many 
people, don't care about the government's work (Hey, fighting is the job 
of generals, not my job). 
 
Fighting an inflation war is much easier than fight a life-and-death war 
for independence, and the people plays a major major role in any war.  The 
leadership gives direction, everyone in the country is asked to be in the 
fight together and everyone does his part to fight.  That is how we win, 
folks.  Fighting any battle in the chien tranh nhan dan style like this 
will guarantee a 90-percent rate of success.
 
This is not just about inflation and fighting inflation.  This is about 
how to lead a country to win, any kind of battle.  I am happy to see once 
in the while that this government does have leadership ingenuity.

Bộ Thông tin đề nghị giữ giá điện, xăng hết năm 
Bộ Thông tin và Truyền thông vừa đề nghị Chính phủ chỉ đạo các 
doanh nghiệp, tập đoàn từ nay đến hết năm chưa tăng giá bán lẻ các 
mặt hàng điện, nước, xăng dầu, xi măng, than... nhằm kìm tốc độ 
tăng giá, đảm bảo phát triển kinh tế vĩ mô.
Sở dĩ Bộ Thông tin Truyền thông đưa ra đề nghị về giá cả là do 
Chính phủ đang lấy ý kiến các bộ ngành đóng góp cho nghị quyết giảm 
nhập siêu, kìm chế tốc độ tăng giá.

Tại bản nghị quyết, Chính phủ đề xuất từ nay đến hết tháng 6 
chưa tăng giá các mặt hàng và dịch vụ thiết yếu như xăng dầu, 
điện, nước, than, thép, xi măng, giấy phân bón, thuốc chữa bệnh, 
học phí, viện phí, giá các loại dịch vụ vận chuyển hàng không, 
đường sắt, xe bus công cộng. Tuy nhiên, Bộ Thông tin và Truyền thông 
cho rằng thời điểm từ nay đến tháng 6 không còn nhiều, trong khi 
giải pháp của Chính phủ đang bắt đầu phát huy tác dụng. Do vậy, cơ 
quan này đề nghị thời gian "kìm" giá nên kéo dài đến hết năm 2008.
Để hạn chế nhập siêu, kiểm soát lạm phát, Bộ Công Thương hôm 7/4 
kiến nghị Chính phủ cần thắt chặt hơn nữa nguồn ngoại tệ cho 
nhập khẩu,
Bên cạnh đó, các tập đoàn, tổng công ty Nhà nước có trách nhiệm 
quản lý giá thành, giá cả các hàng hóa do đơn vị sản xuất, kiểm 
soát hoạt động của các đại lý chống găm hàng, đầu cơ, tăng giá bán. 
Trong đó, Tập đoàn Điện lực VN (EVN) bảo đảm cung cấp đủ điện cho 
sản xuất; không tăng giá điện từ nay đến hết tháng 6/2008 theo chỉ 
đạo của Chính phủ.

Tổng công ty Thép VN và Hiệp hội Thép VN chỉ đạo các doanh nghiệp 
sản xuất không bán tập trung số lượng thép lớn cho các đại lý để 
tránh hiện tượng găm hàng, nâng giá bán, triển khai việc cung ứng 
thép trực tiếp cho các dự án đầu tư lớn, mở rộng kênh phân phối 
tới tận tay người tiêu dùng.
Tổng công ty Xăng dầu cần theo dõi sát diễn biến thị trường xăng 
dầu thế giới, chủ động cân đối cung - cầu, nhập khẩu xăng, dầu 
ở thời điểm và mức giá hợp lý. Đồng thời tăng cường kiểm tra, 
giám sát các cửa hàng bán lẻ trong việc chấp hành quy định về giá 
bán xăng dầu, trang thiết bị đong đếm...
