Dear anh Hoanh, sis Huong and CACC,
Leadership is my favourite topic of my thinking. I myself believe that
raising leadership spirit in our community is one important key to improve
our nation (Vietnam) 's culture. (From my framework of thinking, culture
play an foundation role for any form of grow up and development).
About sis Huong's question, I agreed with anh Hoanh's note. It's very
important point that the word "leader " is from one verb: ""lead" (ke'o or
dan dat in Vietnamese). Leadership is not "pushing" people. The different
between leading or pushing is that:
- When leader focus on leading, they also focus on their personal
development first, stay on their course, go ahead and show other people the
way, but let them make up their mind. By the way of focusing in leading,
leader see other people by broad view, tolerant view and can understand
deeply their follower 's heart. It's the time and point to build the power of
team spirit and make a change, deeply change.
- When leader focus on pushing, they firstly stop themselves on development,
and then see other people with "only" their point of view (sometime that
point of view is very right), the leader will be disappointed with his/her
follower. The leader now also give their follower many negative criticism,
and (may be) use that criticism to flirt leader's ego ("tự ngã" in
Vietnamese). The most important point is that the leader will stop their
effort to develop himself /herself and spend that effort to try to push
other's change. It's the time to create conflict and crisis on team.
The trap in our thinking, in our mind is not easy to realizes, especially
when we are an intelligent man. But as anh Hoanh saying: "Leadership is not
only about mind or brain, leadership is the work of hear". I myselft made
mistakes on "pushing type" of leadership many times in past, and now I'm
sharing my insight and reflect to all VNBizer who are decided to be a
leader.
Understand people (humanity) deeply, understand values deeply, and bring
good value to people is the passion of all "true" leader. I believe that if
we keep the "serving attitude" as the core value of leadership, we can find
ourself the way to overcome any obstacles or trap.
Thanks all for sharing.
