Thanks for that lead. I know such a 'list' must exist - every MoFA in every
country has one - I just have not been able to find it online. When I get
hold of it I will make it public on my updated website (due for re-launch
soon).

I don't think that there is any standard or official lists as lexicographers
in Vietnam still debating. 
You can buy a book of Name and basic information on all countries in the
world. The book (I do not knwo exact tilte) but published by Vietnam News
Agency or MOFA. It can be considered some how as 'official'
best

Dear CACC,
   Does anybody know where I can find the list(s) of the Vietnamese
government's official / approved Vietnamese names of the countries and
languages of the world? I know the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must have
one, but I cannot find anything online. I need it for a private
English-Vietnamese glossary I'm working on. 
 
   Can anybody help?
