Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has geared up evaluations to determine the the feasibility of investments to develop industrial parks in Vietnam through a joint venture with Yang Ming Marine Transport, the largest Taiwan-based shipping company, according to CHT company chairman Tan Hochen at a talk with media on June 9.
CHT has sent a task force to Vietnam for the evaluation, the company indicated.
In addition to Vietnam, CHT is considering investment in China through cooperation with local telecoms carriers to provide value-added services mainly for Taiwan-based enterprises operating there, Hochen noted.
Hochen also revealed that in the second half of 2007 CHT will undertake three large procurement projects through open bidding; NGN (next-generation network) core equipment worth about NT$1.7 billion (US$51.6 million), 300,000 VDSL (very high rate DSL)-2 units for use in FTTB (fiber to the building) connections at an estimated total value of NT$1 billion and 150,000 STBs (set-top boxes) for use in its MOD (multimedia on demand) platform).
