Vietnam's skilled agriculture workforce
HANOI: Only 12 percent of workforces in Vietnam's agriculture are skilled
laborers, local newspaper Vietnam Investment Review reported Monday.
Thirty-one percent of communal officials are graduates from secondary
schools, and only 0.3 percent of them hold university degrees.
Though the rural labor supply is abundant, quality is a question in terms of
education, skills and knowledge about regulations and laws, said Nguyen Thi
Lan, deputy director of the Center for Information, Strategic Analysis and
Estimates under the Vietnamese Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social
Affairs.
The agricultural sector, accounting for 54.7 percent of Vietnam' s total
workforce of 33.6 million, has annually produced 18.7 percent of the
country's gross domestic product in recent years.
