HANOI, Vietnam: Toyo Ink Group Berhad of Malaysia plans to build a US$1 billion thermal power plant in southern Vietnam and has leased land for the project, a local government official said Tuesday.
The company signed an agreement to lease 32 hectares (79 acres) of land where it wants to build a 1,000-megawatt thermal power plant, said Le Viet Dung, deputy director of the investment and planning department in Binh Duong province, where the plant is to be located.
Binh Duong is 50 kilometers (30 miles) northwest of Ho Chi Minh City.
The project has been approved by local authorities, but also requires approval from Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
The power plant would take 24 to 30 months to build. It would be 100 percent-owned by Toyo Ink.
