Dear Brother Thien, sister Thuy Lien & CACC,
Thanks brother Thien for the very informative messages on PWD. I am
grateful that we now have some serious voice on disabilities in this forum.
To me, that is a major part of national development. Basically, a nation
has many groups of people with many voices, and all the voices should be
raised and heard: Women, ethnic minorities, religious groups, farmers,
people with disabilites. I am happy to see that PWDs in Vietnam have
organized themselves well and have become more prominent in our social
scene.
Indeed, I would say we all are disabled in some way: Standing among the
singers, I would be disabled in singing; standing among the runners, I would
be disabled in running. While we are disabled in something, we would excel
in something else.
So as a matter of national development, we need to build a society in which
all talents are used to the max.
And that can be achieved by, first, the elimination of discrimination
(either intentional or inadvertent) and, second, providing equal opportunity
for all. As brother Thien points out, our society is built for the
convenience and thinking of the majority, which may be very unfriendy to
PWD. Ex: Many of us can step up a stairway easily, but that may not be so
easy for someone on a wheelchair. So we need more ramps where we have
stairways to make the world more friendly and less discriminatory to the
folks on wheelchair. It is just a matter of recognizing the need to
eliminate discrimination and to make things equally convenient for all.
I am glad that we all will have an opportunity to learn from brother Thien,
sister Thuy Lien, sister Le Ha Van and others about being more aware of the
special needs of PWD, so that we try to make our society more fair and
just. And I would love to hear from brother Thien your business and
economic projects for PWD. Please feel free to bounce the ideas here in
this forum. That is how we can learn from your projects and can chip in our
own ideas,
Have a great day!
Hoanh
