BirdLife International is a partnership of local conservation NGOs active in over 100 countries worldwide. It has been present in Vietnam since the late 1980s and registered as a representative office since 1997. BirdLife International together with Dak Lak People's Committee are implementing a 5-year GEF/WB funded project entitled "Integrating Watershed and Biodiversity Management in Chu Yang Sin National Park, Dak Lak province, Vietnam".  The overall goal of the project is to conserve the biodiversity attributes of Chu Yang Sin in the long term and to develop integrated watershed and biodiversity management at a broader scale.

 

We are looking for experienced Vietnamese nationals to work in the above project in the following positions:

 

1.       Chief Technical Adviser (CTA):

 

Purpose: To provide overall leadership, management and co-ordination of the project and develop the foundations of a professional and effective park management team.

 

Main tasks:

·         Lead and manage the project, including recruitment and supervision of project staff and consultants, development of the project strategy and work plans and meeting the financial and activity reporting requirements of donors, the government and BirdLife.

·         Establish a close working relationship with the senior park management team, establish and realize a common development vision for the park and park management board within the framework of the project document.

·         Design and lead a programme of guided self-training for capacity building for Chu Yang Sin park staff. 

·         Develop and maintain positive working relationships and collaboration with government partner agencies and other relevant projects and civil society organisations.

·         Build support for Chu Yang Sin and sensitive management of the wider ecosystem among government officials at the district, province and state levels. 

·         Develop and institute procedures to ensure that all project activities and outputs are executed to the highest possible standard.

 

2.       Project Communication and Awareness Officer (PCAO)

 

Purpose: To lay the foundations for creating a level of public support compatible with conservation and ensure that the needs and potential of the park are considered in all development planning decisions at the commune, district and provincial levels.

 

Main tasks:

·         Prepare community awareness and public relations (social marketing) strategies based on the findings of the commissioned knowledge and attitude surveys, a stakeholder assessment and a review of state-of-the-art conservation and social marketing techniques.

·         In conjunction with park staff, conduct community awareness campaigns and other awareness/communication activities.

·         As directed by the CTA, advise and assist park staff with the preparation and execution of self-training tasks in the field of awareness and social marketing.

·         Supervise the preparation, production and dissemination of awareness and extension materials. 

·         Assist with the development and promotion of a consistent project image. Assist with the promotion of the vision for conservation management in the wider CYS landscape. 

 

3.       Project Officer (science) (PO)

 

Purpose: To assist the CTA in all areas of project work and conduct specific assessment and training assignments

 

Main tasks:

·         Assist the CTA with capacity building for the park management board, especially in the fields of conservation planning, biodiversity assessment and training, and park management.

·         Co-ordinate with the Communication and Awareness Officer on production of extension materials for forest and nature park protection. 

Qualifications:

 

For CTA position:

o        Post-graduate degree (M.Sc or Ph.D) in forestry, agronomy or rural development.

o        At least 15 years of experience in forestry and conservation.

o        Strong experience in working with government partners in donor-funded projects. Experience in the management/coordination of GEF-funded project(s) is a plus.

o        Very good command of English (spoken and written) and good computer skills.

 

For other positions:

o        University degree in relevant field.

o        At least 5 years of experience in forestry and conservation.

o        Strong experience in working with government partners in donor-funded projects. Experience working in GEF-funded project(s) is a plus.

o        Good command of English (spoken and written) and good computer skills.

 

Note: Less experienced candidates will also be considered.

 

Duty station: All the above positions are based at Chu Yang Sin National Park, Krong Bong District, Dak Lak Province. 

 

Duration of post: The posts are available initially for a period of one year with possibility for extension under the Service Contract. The probation period for all posts above is 2 months.
