*HEADLINE:* *VIETNAM* INFLATION LIKELY TO REMAIN UNDER 7% THIS YEAR

*BODY:*

Section: Regional News - The consumer price index is unlikely to exceed 7
per cent for the whole of 2006, the Domestic Market Regulation Board has
said.

That level of inflation would be satisfactory because it followed the
National Assembly's aim of keeping inflation lower than the growth rate,
which is expected to reach 8 per cent this year.

The team estimated that prices would inch up by 0.3-0.4 per cent in October.

The board predicted a sharp rise in the economy, due to increasing demand
for materials and commodities during the remainder of the year coupled with
a minimum wage hike to become effective from October.

It was estimated that crude oil prices would not fall below US$60 per barrel
and that domestic demand for petroleum would continue to rise.

For the first nine months of this year, the CPI has increased by 5.1 per
cent, lower than the rate of 6.8 per cent in the first nine months of 2005.
