The export turnover of wood products in the first nine months of the year
reached US$1.35 billion representing 79.5 per cent of the yearly target and
increasing 23.8 per cent year-on-year, according to the Ministry of
Agriculture and Rural Development.

The Vietnam Association of Timber and Forest Products said Vietnam's wood
products have been exported to 120 countries and territories, with the
United States, the European Union, and Japan being the largest markets.

The US imported US$467 million worth of wood products from Vietnam in the
period, a 30.1 per cent increase over the same period last year. The EU
market followed with US$333 million, up 20.4 per cent, and Japan - US$170
million, up 16 per cent.

Meanwhile, Canada has emerged as a potential market for Vietnam's wood
products, spending US$30 million in the period, surging 76 per cent over the
same period last year.

Vietnam targets revenues of US$4 billion from the export of wood products by
2010 and US$8 billion by 2020, said the Association.
