We are seeking an enthusiastic researcher with good *qualitative* skills to
join an experienced international team of researchers investigating
?*Transnational
Migration in South-East Asia and the Health of Children Left Behind*?. The
project is funded by the Wellcome Trust and will involve the development,
implementation, management and analysis of a large multi-country survey.
You will be based in Singapore but will be expected to travel to the four
study countries of Indonesia, Thailand, The Philippines and Vietnam. You
will work closely with a Postdoctoral Fellow based at the University of St
Andrews, UK, as well as with collaborators from the UK and the study
countries.
You will have, or be about to complete, a PhD in a relevant social science
discipline (e.g. Health Geography, Social/Health Psychology, Medical
Demography, Medical Sociology or Epidemiology). Preference will be given to
those with research experience in the area of migration and health in
Southeast Asia, as well as expertise in managing multi-country research
(questionnaire surveys and in-depth interviews). Experience with qualitative
data analysis, e.g. Nud*ist or equivalent, is highly desirable. A
familiarity with questionnaire design, sampling methodology, anthropometric
measurements and validated health measures in the context of Asia, and
fluency in one or more Southeast Asian languages will be an asset.
The post will be for 3 years from January 2007.

You will be based at the University of St Andrews but will be expected

a Fellow based at the National University of Singapore, as well as with
collaborators from Singapore and the study countries.
You will have, or be about to complete, a PhD in a relevant social science

Demography, Medical Sociology or Epidemiology). You will have considerable
experience of handling and analysing quantitative data sets, including
multivariate modelling, and good communications skills. Knowledge of
questionnaire design, sampling methodology, anthropometric measurements and
validated health measures would be an advantage, as would research
experience of South-East Asian issues.
The post will be for 3 years from 3 January 2007, or as soon as possible
thereafter.
