This photo is of former Air force nurse Joan Duffy, who was exposed to
Agent Orange during her service in the Vietnam War.
Joan is now dying of cancer in a New Mexico hospital.

The photo shows her receiving a medal of friendship from a
representative from Viet Nam. Also present (on the right) is Merle
Ratner of the New York-based Vietnam Agent Orange Relief and
Responsibility Campaign. The young woman on the left certainly looks
like she is a daughter of Joan.

One of Joan's daughters and one of her grandsons were born with
disabilities because of Joan's exposure. She has been very active in
peace and AO awareness work all her life. She was one of the 6-member
Veterans for Peace team that participated in the March, 2006
international conference in Ha Noi on agent orange.

The San Francisco Chapter of Veterans for Peace will be marching this
Sat. Nov. 11th in the annual Veteran's Day Parade. We will again be
marching to highlight the issue of AO (as we did last November).

We will dedicate our contingent to Joan Duffy.

Joan Duffy received award from Vietnam

As you may know, Joan Duffy is near the end from cancer caused by her
exposure to Agent Orange while an Air Force nurse in Vietnam during
the war.

Recently the Vietnamese people's association issued her a medal for
her service promoting friendship between our two peoples.

Here is a picture of the representative of the Vietnam Mission in San
Francisco and Merle Rater of the Vietnam Agent Orange campaign
presenting the award to Joan in her hospital bed.

We are proud of Joan and will keep her in our thoughts and prayers.
