Well, I suppose we should start with something "seasonal", other than Ho!
Ho! Ho!, I mean. How about Christmas trees? No, not those plastic replica
things, but real, live Douglas Fir Christmas trees, complete with their
wonderful sweet outdoor fragrance and dark green or blue-green needles,
imported from the land of ice and snow! No, not Lapland---from Canada! Hanoi
Vine Wine Bar & Restaurant chef-owner and quality wine, cigar and tequila
distributor Donald Berger has imported 150 of these natural beauties, and I'm
already a buyer! Donald ships them down from Hanoi for us Southern
folks. Apparently
only a few of the small ones (1.5 to 1.8m) are left, so if you're interested
I suggest you phone right away to arrange for one. Telephone Ms. Nguyen Thuy
in HCMC at 822 4812, mobile 0915057123; in Hanoi call (04) 719 8321. More
about Douglas Firs (they can grow to 85m) at*

Minsk!----but

underprivileged families! **Great fun for a good cause!*
*Last year's "Vung Tau Charity Run" was a big success and this year the
idea's the same but the charity is different. Leaving at 10:00 A.M., with a
short 40km jaunt to Cu Chi on the northern outskirts of HCMC; lunch at 12:00
Noon at "Am thuc vuon pho 2" restaurant in Cu Chi centre; then a 5-minute
ride to the local Red Cross office and the handover of a basic food package
(noodles, rice, cooking oil, etc.) for some of the more than 500 families
living below the poverty line which the Red Cross helps. Many of these
families have members suffering from the effects of Agent Orange. Remaining
food packs not distributed during the run will be handed over to the Red
Cross for later dispersal to other needy families.*
*Then, it'll be back to Saigon with a "Poker Run", cheap drinks, BBQ, Custom
Show for the best scooters, music, and a raffle with all profits to be
donated to the Red Cross. *
*The basic food package will be prepared by those involved, with a minimum
value of VND75,000. Of course, donations may be made in lieu of food
packages.*
*All drivers are welcome! If you can't join the Run in person, you and your
company are invited to help sponsor this worthwhile event!*
*Pat at Saigon Scooter Centre (BTW, it's Vietnam's only 100% foreign-owned
and fully-licenced scooter business!) plans to have many more such events
for fun and charity! And also BTW, I think that if you need to have a
scooter for the day Pat can probably arrange one for you.*

*More News That's Fit to Print (or view on the Web):*
*O.K., I'm impressed. I've seen a few issues of Saigon Inside Out and it's
definitely a slick, informative, comprehensive and interesting publication.
Published by 365 days Advertising, there's a Phnom Penh Inside Out too,
which I believe was started before the HCMC version* *[and next Spring look
for a Thailand version]* *. There's even an "Interactive Cover" on the
Website edition* (
http://www.saigoninsideout.com/<http://www.saigoninsideout.com/>)
*Also impressive is their offer to send you a free subscription, delivered
to your door. Send your contact details to the nice folks at* by clicking
here <http://www.saigoninsideout.com/?q=subscriptions>.* (And they MUST be
nice folks!---they plugged Upcoming Events, eh?! rather positively awhile
back.) But don't forget us here at UEe, eh?!*

*CityLife* *is back*
*Certainly one of the most artistic and attractive magazines about the
people, culture, places, fashion, style, trends, and nostalgic history of
Saigon has been CityLife , whose first four previous issues I have kept and
treasured. It has now reappeared and the new issue being sold at newsstands
now does meet the publishers' promise: "more and more interesting"!*
