Dear chi Thanh Lan,
Thanks for the note. I like Tuan Ngoc. I would think his performance would
be very good. Probably it is hard to compare the Pham Duy show and Tuan
Ngoc show. Pham Duy show is about his songs, with other singers. Tuan Ngoc
is about his voice, with other song writers. But I would love to see Tuan
Ngoc DVD. I imagine they would have it coming soon.
About change in some words in some of Pham Duy songs, I recognized that and
kinda smiled about it. Mau Tim Hoa Sim, poem by Huu Loan and music by Pham
Duy, was changed once in the 1970s when it came out the first time in
Saigon, to be politically correct. Say "nang co ba nguoi anh di bo doi" (as
in the original poem) was changed to "nang co ba nguoi anh di quan doi,"
to circulate in South Vietnam. Now, it is changed back to the original poem
of "di boi doi." A couple of words like that here and there. No big deal.
I kinda feel sorry for the writers and artists of Vietnam, who are always
harassed by politicos and historical circumstances. But the change BACK to
the original poem is very good for me. I have always been annoyed by the
first change FROM the original.
Great day, chi Thanh Lan and all.
