Good questions!
The hardware supports HD video, up to 1080p/24hz and definitely 5.1
audio. The specs is on web site.

I can't tell you more than what is public. You can ask all the questions
you want on http://forum.vudu.com. Lots of knowledgeable people there to
answer any questions you have about the product.
The price is not that much when you look at what it comes with. Full HD
support, small, work more like a DVD player. Look at the price of TiVoHD
or AppleTV, compare their features to VUDU and the pricing is very good.
VUDU is much more convenient, on-demand and you don't need a computer to
watch video on your TV.
This product is targeted at people who own HDTV and audio equipment and
want to take full advantage of the HDTV they purchased. The video
quality is much better than DVD.
Cheers,
Tin Le
