The Healing Power of Compassion
My uncle in Vietnam had liver cancer... The case was serious and the only treatment was a surgical. In his case, even when the operation was a success, doctors still believed he would die shortly after that (about 3 months). So the operation's effect would be just to lengthen his life a little longer. The operation was a success and doctors told him to prepare for the sickness to recur. We were hopeless but still we believed in Kuanyin and Buddhism's healing power. So my uncle decided to be a vegetarian, recite the Kuanyin's name and the Great Compassion mantra, and do every good deeds he could in the three months after the surgery. Three months later, when he came for a re-examination, to the doctors's surprise, the cancer did not recur. However, they were still watching...
Now almost two years after the surgery, he has been completely recovered. In recent days, he appeared on the TV for an interview about his secrets to recovery, as his case is so far unique (statistiallly, it was a 1/200 chance of survival).
The conclusion is that cultivating compassion and practicing the Buddha's way will create blessings and healing powers. May peace to everyone who reads this story and Merry Christmas!
