James Baker, former USA's chief of staff:
* On the fleeting nature of fame: "Right after I became chief of
staff, I was driving into the northwest gate of the White House,
and there was a former chief of staff, someone that everybody
would have recognized, walking alone down the sidewalk. It
was then that it brought home to me the impermanence (vo^ thu+o+`ng)
of power and place"

* On his father, Baker credits his father for being a stern
a stern disciplinarian who instilled in him a strong work ethic,
a deep discipline, a healthy sense of competition and a love
for the outdoors.

But perhaps the most important advice, Baker says, was what
his workaholic father called the "Five P's" — Prior Preparation
Prevents Poor Performance.
