Hi everyone:

Below is an email from Dr. Zimmerman. His email indicates that ILAS 
3396 (Advanced Speaking & Reading Vietnamese) may be cancelled this 
fall 2006 and beyond because of the current low enrollment. The 
minimum enrollment is ten and currently the ILAS 3396 is at nine. 
Class that does not meet the minimum enrollment will be cancelled on 
the 12th day of classes, which is early next week.

For students, one of the key advantages of ILAS 3396 is that after 
completing this course, you will have fulfilled your foreign 
language requirement. For other students who are taking or planning 
to take Vietnamese Intermediate II, the next level is ILAS 3396.

If you are interested and capable of completing this class, you 
should register. This will not only help you regarding foreign 
language requirement and knowledge of the Vietnamese langauge, but 
also would help save the class from being cancelled. 

Otherwise, you and other Vietnamese students won't have such 
opportunity again to take ILAS 3396.

UH is one of a few university in the U.S. that is currently taking a 
lead in establishing a comprehensive Vietnamese language program. 
One reason why UH administrators have supported such program is 
because of the previous strong enrollment in the Vietnamese language 
courses. However, there are other administrators who will point to 
the current low enrollment and suggest that perhaps the current 
money should be placed in other language programs such as Chinese, 
Hindu or Arabic rather than the Vietnamese language program. 

Please don't let this happen!

The Vietnamese language program is yours and for your generation!!!

We all have to do what we can to preserve our history, our culture, 
and our language, particularly in mainstream institutions.

Don't let this opportunity pass! 

There may not be another one.
