The Seminar on the Nine Commentaries held in Melbourne, Australia on December 18th Based on historical facts, The Epoch Times’ Nine Commentaries on the Chinese Communist Party expose the evil nature of the CCP; especially its advocacy of violence and deception, its destruction of traditional values and the tremendous disaster it has brought upon the Chinese nation. The Nine Commentaries have had far-reaching effects on people around the world, evoking strong sympathetic responses from Chinese people everywhere, especially those from mainland China.
The Nine Commentaries Elicit Strong Sympathetic Responses from Mainland China
Recently, The Epoch Times has received many articles from mainland Chinese, wishing to express their sympathetic response to the Nine Commentaries. The feedback has arrived in various ways, such as by e-mail and phone, and via forums and chat tools. The feedback site run by The Epoch Times has also received responses from Mainland and overseas readers, echoing the voices of their friends and family in China.
Some Chinese people have commented: “At present the people are very curious about the Nine Commentaries, and eager to read them.” “The people are boiling with resentment, appealing for protest, engaging in petitioning and insurrection. All are simply trying to survive, but some have not been able; going so far as to end their own lives by self-immolation. Hearing of the Nine Commentaries, all feel as if they are trying to grasp at straws by feigning a mental disorder.”
Some have said: “With remarkable literary grace, the articles truly reflect the trend of the times.” “I want to thank you all for your righteous deed. China belongs to the Chinese people, and everyone with a Chinese heart. You expose sinister behind-the-scenes crimes, though you have no way to prevent the crimes from happening. I will support you in rewarding virtue and punishing vice until our country is truly based upon equality and freedom.”
Some added: “The Nine Commentaries have echoed our voices.” “The Nine Commentaries have spread so fast that my boss even changed his previous attitude and read them himself.” “There are policies from above, there are counter measures from below. Unit leaders have mentioned that it’s better to read those articles in private, not to make them public.” “Good news will surely spread; it cannot be blocked” “The CCP is stuffing its ears for the purpose of stealing a bell; just cheating itself.” “A righteous voice cannot be subdued.”
Some mentioned: “Thank you all, China does have hope; we do have hope. Please do not give up on the Chinese people, who are indeed suffering and very pitiful. Thanks! The dawn of victory will come for sure, at which time debts must be paid in blood.” “Thank you for your selfless effort and for opening a window for us in the dark. I think I love my motherland from beginning to end. Please believe that I will do whatever I can to assist with its abrupt rise.”
The CCP Terrified to Investigate the Actual Authors of the Nine Commentaries
The introduction of the Nine Commentariess to China has made the upper levels of the CCP extremely nervous. According to an internal source obtained by The Epoch Times, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CCP has recently issued three orders aimed at dealing with the effects of the Nine Commentaries. These orders were transmitted to CCP heads at both the provincial and ministerial levels, and include one order that is directly aimed at discovering the identities of the authors of the Nine Commentaries. It is likely as a result of this order that the CCP has recently detained and arrested writers, scholars and known dissidents.
Shi Zhongshan, a known commentator, remarked: “The CCP does not dare to show a positive response to the Nine Commentaries, nor do they dare to distribute them inside of China for the purpose of coming together for a group critiquing process, nor do they dare even to transmit them to senior level cadres to serve as a reference. This has become a difficult issue for the CCP due to their fear that some senior cadres, upon reading the Nine Commentaries, may come to realize the evil and corruption of the CCP and decide to end their membership in the party.”
The CCP Reinforces Information Blockades and Media Control
The only thing the CCP can do now to stave off the effects of the Nine Commentaries is to reinforce the information blockades that are already in place, and tighten its control over the mass media.
An Internet user in China stated: “During this period of time, network forums have been strictly controlled, and any speech on forums has to be inspected. People are unable to listen to the radio due to severe jamming; all that can be heard is noise from the China Central Broadcasting Station, as well as from smaller provincial stations. Private satellite television receivers have been forcibly demolished, with the excuse given that watching enemy stations is not allowed, and will be met with serious punishment. The existing bans against illegal newspapers and magazines have all been strengthened. People feel as if they can smell the scent of the Great Cultural Revolution again. It is unknown that whether the Hu-Wen leadership is an essentially despotic dictatorship or whether its actions are primarily motivated by fear of The Epoch Times’ Nine Commentaries on the CCP.”
According to the Chinese Information Center, history students at Beijing University have received repeated threats that they should not feel that they can say whatever they wish over the Internet. These threats are the result of the students repeatedly accessing overseas Chinese Web sites that contain uncensored information on the Nine Commentaries.
Another Internet user reflected: “For some reason that nobody can figure out, QQ, the biggest chat tool, cannot display the three characters that symbolize the CCP; some believe that this is a direct result of the Nine Commentaries. As soon as I read them, I realized that the CCP is an evil cult. It is the CCP itself that has made it clear that they have deceived us. It is really unacceptable if one does not say that the Communist Party is an evil cult! Be quick to escape this evil Communist Party!”
The Nine Commentaries Have Found Their Way into Mainland China Through Various Channels
Despite the Chinese authorities’ severe information blockades, the more the government attempts to cover them up, the faster the Nine Commentaries are spreading. People in mainland China are finding ways to read the articles on The Epoch Times and other overseas Web sites in spite of the Internet blockades. Many Internet users learned about the Nine Commentaries while chatting online. Feedback indicates that a large number of people are circulating the Nine Commentaries in China, and even some policemen are looking for these articles to read. Some people heard of them via the news, and are searching extensively for copies. Articles condemning the CCP and its evil regime are flooding into the Epoch Times from Mainland China; they are urging overseas media to come to China for more in-depth interviews..
Overseas Chinese are continuously sending the Nine Commentaries into mainland China via phone calls, e-mail, forums and online chat rooms. An Epoch Times reader said, “When I called China, I found that people have become bolder since reading the Nine Commentaries.” Some readers offered to take the Nine Commentaries with them when they visit China. Westerners are also passing them on to their Chinese friends during their visits to China.
The CCP’s firewalls are having a hard time catching up with the current network technology to circumvent Internet blockades. An Internet user wrote in a letter, “Your software is very effective, I am so glad to read news that people in mainland China are never allowed to read. It appears when the evil in mainland China raises one foot, the virtue overseas raises 10. Thank you!”

Besides being transmitted in different text file formats, the Nine Commentaries have been made into video and audio files that can be downloaded. The Sound of Hope Radio Network’s (a news and entertainment broadcast service offering a unique perspective on Asian culture and its people, http://soundofhope.org) shortwave channel covers most areas in mainland China. Since Dec. 24, in addition to its three frequencies, the Sound of Hope has set up two more frequencies specifically for broadcasting the complete Nine Commentaries to mainland China. In addition, it has opened three free hotlines for mainlanders. The New Tang Dynasty TV (an independent, nonprofit Chinese language TV broadcaster established by overseas Chinese, http://www.ntdtv.com/) has set up free of charge direct-to-home satellite broadcasting, and it broadcasts the Commentaries to mainland China on the W5 satellite.
Most of the People Quitting the CCP online Are from Mainland China
The publication of the Nine Commentaries triggered a wave of people renouncing CCP membership. A panicked CCP attempted to stop the withdrawal wave through unscrupulous means. According to news from China, the CCP recently started a campaign to incite students to join the CCP. The Dongbei University of Finance and Economics in Liaoning province has encouraged students to apply for Party membership, and the applications are approved right away. Some University classes even require that all students join the CCP.
According to the statistics, within 20 days since The Epoch Times has set up its CCP withdrawal Web page, more than 2,000 people have written statements quitting the Communist Party or League. Most of them are from mainland China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Xi'an, Wuhan, Suzhou, Anhui, Guangxi, Yunnan, Jiangsu, Shanxi, Daqing, Guangdong, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Hebei, Hunan, Zhejiang, Liaoning, Sichuan, Guizhou, Fujian and Shandong; a demographic that spans nearly the entire country. This shows that the Nine Commentaries have indeed been widely spread across all of China. People joining the withdrawal wave come from all walks of life, including civil servants, engineers and technicians, government officials, writers, scholars, teachers, professors, workers, farmers and police.
Among them are some elders who have personally experienced persecution from the CCP as well as youngsters who have not seen much of the world yet. In their withdrawal declarations, they exposed the evilness of the CCP and expressed their resonance with the articles, each from his or her own perspective and experience. Many indicated that they joined the CCP muddle-headedly, but they are now choosing to quit the party with a clear head.
Many people pointed out that quitting the evil CCP is not just a formality, it is the first step toward completely cleaning out the poisonous elements of the CCP from their minds. Just as the 23 young and middle-aged instructors from the Harbin Medical University stated in their December 21st group declaration of quitting the CCP, “We really appreciate this withdrawal Web page set up by The Epoch Times. It enables us to be relieved from anxiety via the Internet. At last we can extricate ourselves from the CCP, the parasite of the devil.”
So far, the number of people who have publicly declared withdrawal from the Party is far from the actual number of people who wish to do so. Sources from Mainland China reveal that many more people have long been secretly waiting for the right opportunity to quit the Party. Among them are a large number of well-known experts and scholars.
